PHASE 2: Navigation Underwater

Just received today from Ebay, great oil filled depth gauge ($29.95), measures depth up to 150 feet. This is more for testing purpose, rather then true deep dives.
In final ROV after heavy testing, I will install electronic gauge which can measure depth up to incredible 1100 feet and 500 PSI pressure (34 bars).

PHASE 1: Initial Building & Buying Parts

NOTE: Sorry about low quality pics, I was using my PocketPC Wing for quick shots.

Finally went to Lowe's, and bought some PVC pipes for initial "Deep Bot" framing, and skeleton. I decide to use stronger pipes, the size is 1/1"4.

Also got PVC cutter which supposed to be 1/1"4 size. I must admit, it is very hard to use PVC cutter alone, it simply could brake if you try to cut pipes straight, I had to make incision with sharp stainless steel kitchen knife, about 0.3 inch, and continue to cut it around, and use cutter.

PVC pipe, tends to shatter, so make sure you wear protective glasses. Pieces are sharp almost like glass.

Here's frame construction progress.

Almost finished...

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my blog, which is fully devoted to my "Deep Bot" ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle).
I live in Los Angeles (mostly) and Las Vegas.

I have always been intrigued by deep sea, life in "twilight zone" and great pressure.
It first started around 1990, when I was watching "The Abyss" (1989) by James Cameron

that's when I got "hooked" onto deep diving subject.

I highly recommend another movie "Sphere" (with Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone), which is similar subject. Also watch movie "The Big Blue" (with incredible music by Eric Serra).

From time to time, I will be posting my research, thoughts, progress, pics and videos from "Deep Bot" progress, mini-expedition and testings.
I hope this blog, will help you improving yours homebuilt ROV or AUV.

Take care,
Ciril
